We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team within our Offshore Energy product market group. Based at our offices in Newcastle upon Tyne, the successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination, technical leadership and successful delivery of bespoke Engineering projects across a variety of markets including Cablelay, Pipelay, Handling Systems and Subsea Technology.
You will be responsible for:
Taking ownership as the design authority and provide technical leadership of a team of Engineers in the successful delivery of projects, within the specified time, budget, to the specification and the required quality standards.
Providing supervision to a team of Engineers including coaching, mentoring, providing direction and intervention when required
Ensuring that the Engineering project team clearly understand their responsibilities throughout the full project lifecycle (concept through to installation), taking ownership to make key decisions, call reviews when required and approval of design documentation within the design team
Promoting ownership to the Engineering team, ensuring there is a focus on delivery and commitment to hitting deadlines
Ensuring compliance with design practices / guidelines and provide input into continuous improvement activities.
Job requirements:
Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary design environment.
In depth knowledge and experience in design and manufacture of some or all of the following: Trenchers, Cable/Pipe lay, LARS and bespoke Onshore and Offshore equipment
Up to date knowledge in relevant technologies and engineering design techniques
Ability to provide technical guidance to the project Engineering team on a day to day basis, ensuring that Engineers have technical direction and clear project deliverables
Flexible and knowledgeable, ability to work across disciplines and share ideas
Analytical and methodical approach to problem solving with the required experience to make key decisions throughout the project (concept design through to sea trials)
Ability to lead, delegate and support the Engineering project team in order to deliver to specification, budget and timescale
Ability to produce high quality work even while under pressure
Ability to work with minimum technical supervision
Good communications and presentation skills
In depth knowledge of Engineering design and associated techniques including basic mechanics, hand calculations, analysis packages (Ansys, Staad Pro), CAD software packages (Inventor, AutoCAD)
