QHSE Advisor, Cape Town

Unique Group

Werkendam
Full Time
Posted on: May 23 2026
Location: Cape Town, South Africa Company: Unique Hydra (Pty)Ltd Industry: Oil and Gas Employment type: Permanent Scope: South Africa (100% RSA-focused) Open to RSA citizens only Salary: Market related CTC Benefits: None (e.g. medical insurance /retirement fund)   If you’re the kind of QHSE professional who doesn’t just “tick the box” — you walk the floor, spot the risk, ask the uncomfortable question, and help teams do the right thing even when it’s hard — we’d like to meet you. We’re looking for a hands-on QHSE Advisor to strengthen our South African operations in Cape Town. This role exists because the business is moving from outsourced support to an embedded, dedicated QHSE capability — someone who will help us build consistency, confidence, and a proactive culture across quality, safety, and environment.

The impact You’ll Make

You’ll help translate management system requirements into practical, on-the-ground controls, and give leaders clear visibility of risks, trends, and what operational excellence looks like in daily operations. This role supports and strengthens our integrated approach across: ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) You’ll spend your time where it matters — supporting teams, improving discipline, and keeping our systems audit-ready:

On the floor & in the field

Conduct routine QHSE inspections, workplace observations, housekeeping checks, and compliance reviews. Support operational teams with risk assessments, method statements, lifting plans, permits, and task-specific controls., Verify controls for high-risk activities (e.g., lifting, working at height, confined space, hot work) and ensure permit-to-work discipline is strong. Deliver and support toolbox talks, briefings, safety alerts, and lessons learned.

In the system

  • Support implementation and upkeep of the Integrated Management System and keep documentation and registers current and usable.
  • Coordinate and participate in audits, inspections, and assurance activities, and drive close-out discipline.
  • Ensure incidents, near misses, non-conformances and quality events are reported, investigated (RCA), and closed out with meaningful corrective actions.
  • Collect, analyse and report QHSE performance data (incidents, audits, NCRs, corrective actions, KPIs and trends).

In the moment

  • You’ll have Stop Work Authority — and the confidence to use it respectfully and appropriately when required.
We’re aiming for someone who is credible with teams, comfortable in operational environments, and equally comfortable with standards and systems.

Must-haves

  • A degree or diploma in Quality / Engineering / OHS / Environmental Management (or related).
  • ±5 years’ relevant experience in a QHSE operational/advisory role.
  • Working knowledge of ISO-based management systems and practical audit exposure.
  • Solid capability in risk assessment and investigation approaches (HIRA, EAIA, RCA).
  • Strong admin discipline: records, reporting, follow-up, close-out.

Strongly Advantageous

  • ISO 9001 Internal/Lead Auditor (or actively working toward it).
  • ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 training and/or NEBOSH IGC (or equivalent).
  • Experience in engineering, marine, subsea, manufacturing, or regulated environments.

Ready to apply?

Please forward your CV to vacancysa@uniquegroup.com, together with and a short note answering: “What’s the most meaningful QHSE improvement you’ve implemented — and how did you get buy-in?”. NO external hand delivered applications handed in at the HR office at Unique Hydra will be excepted. All applications must contain certified copies of relevant certificates and at least 3 contactable work references. If you have not had any response in two weeks from date of application, please consider your application unsuccessful. Closing date for submissions: 1 June 2026.   Preference will be given to suitable candidates from designated groups as per the company’s Employment Equity Policy and Plan
