System Engineer Network & Security

Jan De Nul Group – Dredging

Capellen
Full Time
Posted on: April 29 2026
Your Work Context

Are you an experienced Network & Security System Administrator who thrives in complex network and security environments? At Jan De Nul Group, headquartered in Aalst (Belgium), you will take responsibility for helping design, manage, and maintain a global IT network supporting our offices, construction sites, and vessels worldwide. In this role, you combine deep expertise in routing, switching, firewalls, and cybersecurity with an international project environment where stability, performance, and security are key priorities.

Your Role

As a Network & Security System Administrator, you speak the language of routers, firewalls, and switches, and you will be responsible for co-designing, implementing, and maintaining network and security solutions. This applies both to the local offices in Belgium as well as supporting the global projects of Jan De Nul.

In the morning, you start your day with a strong cup of coffee and a chat with colleagues. When you open your laptop, you already know how your day will go. If you find tickets from colleagues in your mailbox asking for ICT or network support, you will look for the most efficient and best-placed solution. You also answer questions from Technical Support Engineers — about networks, switching, ICT, or cybersecurity — including those onboard our ships worldwide. If it concerns a complex problem, you can’t wait to get started. And for that, you can always count on your colleagues who are happy to help! You easily switch between small and large projects and ad hoc challenges. In short, as a System Engineer, you ensure a high-performance network environment, a reliable data center, and optimal digital security — all on a large scale.

As a Network & Security System Administrator, you are the colleague who guarantees a stable and secure network.

  • You are responsible for the design, installation, and configuration of the global network and security infrastructure;
  • You provide support in upgrading and patching systems and play a crucial role in managing and optimizing worldwide network infrastructures. This way, you help ensure that data and systems are protected against potential threats;
  • You manage the WAN, firewalls, security perimeter, and switches;
  • You are the final internal link in the ICT department’s support process.

What do you need?

You have obtained a bachelor’s degree in an ICT-related field and have more than 3 years of relevant work experience. You have knowledge of switches/routers (Cisco, Aruba), firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto), F5, SSL encryption, VPN, and monitoring. You work methodically and project-oriented. Solving problems is your thing, and you also perform well under (time) pressure. You are a good communicator — both in Dutch and English — and you dare to ask colleagues for help, but only after you have first looked for a suitable solution yourself.
