About us

Damen Civil & Modular Constructions is a company within the Damen group where we are passionate about building entire shipyards, drydocks of all sizes, a wide range of (modular) pontoons and barges, and any other steelworks worldwide. We are headquartered in the center of the Netherlands in Gorinchem but we service an build all over the globe. We have a diverse mix of experts in engineering, production (local and global), quality and project/product management. Together we aim to serve our internal and external clients with out of the box solutions.

The role

We are looking for a dedicated Manager Civil to manage all the Civil activities within Damen Civil and Modular Constructions. You will lead a team of approximately 20 people in the Netherlands with the same number working abroad. You will report directly to the director and are responsible for the daily operations of the departments, executions of the projects, development of product lines such as training, consultancy, yard management and yard constructions.

You bring an wealth of experience in the civil field with knowledge of completing complex projects in challenging locations. You are able to balance setting out the goals and objectives of the department and have enough knowhow to be able to manage large projects.

Tasks and responsbilities

As Manager Civil within Damen Civil and Modular Construction you will fill your week with the following tasks and responsibilities:

Providing inspiring leadership to a committed Civil team across the globe, with a focus on coaching and development.
Manage Risks of large projects abroad
Regular consultation with the (commercial) project department.
Monitoring project milestones, planning and budget; identify and tackle obstacles in a timely manner.
Manage, maintain and develop businesslines
Continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.
Maintain relationships with external Civil partners and suppliers.
Contributing to construction strategies and manufacturability of new projects.

Education / skills and experience:

You recognize yourself in the following profile

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or similar.
Demonstrable experience in managing civil departments
5–7+ of practical experience in managing civil projects and the same in managing a department
Strong communication skills and intercultural sensitivity.
Familiar with ERP software (IFS/SAP).
Fluent in Dutch and English.
Good command of MS Office, including MS Project and SharePoint.

Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) has a worldwide network of 18 repair and conversion yards with drydocks ranging up to 420 x 80 metres. DSC yards have extensive experience – completing more than 1,300 projects every year, from normal drydockings for scheduled maintenance to damage repair, right up to extensive refit and conversion projects.

Services

Being active in the maritime industry demands continuous vessel reliability. For nearly all vessel types Damen offers a broad range of services, including maintenance, spare parts delivery, training and the transfer of shipbuilding know-how.

Components

Damen is also specialised in the design and production of various marine components including propeller nozzles, rudders, special towing winches, anchors, anchor chains and steel works.
