About us

Damen Song Cam Shipyard is a joint venture between Damen Shipyards Group in the Netherlands and Song Cam Shipyard, based in Haiphong, Vietnam. The shipyard is a strategic and preferred production location within the Damen Shipyards Group, producing tugboats and workboats. Currently, the shipyard outfits, commissions, and delivers approximately 40 vessels per year to clients worldwide. This role will mainly focus to supply shared (office related) service activities towards other (Damen) companies around the globe with the majority situated in the Netherlands. Towards the future, this role will become part of the Damen Global Shared Services organization.

The role

Responsible for the successful implementation of the Tax controls for the various Damen business in Vietnam. This mainly involves Damen Song Cam Shipyards but also the other shipbuilding and maritime service business on tax implications of doing business in Vietnam and implementing the Global Tax controls and policies for Indirect and Direct taxes and being the spokesperson with local tax advisors and tax authorities in Vietnam.

This position will report to the Group Head of Tax and closely collaborate with the global tax team based in The Netherlands. The position requires a high level of independence, strong technical expertise in Vietnamese tax law, and the ability to act as a center of excellence for tax matters in Vietnam.

Key accountabilities

Your main responsibilities include:

Acting as in-house Tax Manager for Damen Song Cam Shipyard;
Ensuring full compliance with Vietnamese tax regulations, including:
- Corporate Income Tax (CIT)
- Foreign Contractor Tax (FCT)
- Value Added Tax (VAT)
- Customs duties;
Advising Damen businesses in The Netherlands on the tax implications of shipbuilding and maritime services performed in Vietnam, including but not limited to:
- Damen Workboats
- Damen Offshore & Specialized Vessels
- Damen Services and potential new business activities;
Serving as the first point of contact for all Vietnamese tax matters within the Damen Shipyards Group;
Managing relationships with local tax authorities and external tax advisors in Vietnam;
Supporting the Damen Group Tax team in the implementation of the Global Tax Control Framework, including:
- Pillar Two regulations
- Transfer Pricing
- Global Withholding Taxes
- Global Tax Policies;
Supporting annual recurring processes related to CIT and VAT reporting and compliance.

Qualifications & Requirements

To be successful in this role, you bring:

A university degree in Tax Law, Tax Economics or a related field;
More than 10 years of experience in tax advisory and/or in-house tax roles;
Preferred background in Big 4 advisory firms and/or multinational companies as an in-house Tax Manager;
Strong knowledge of Vietnamese tax legislation and its application in complex business environments;
Experience in project management and working with cross-functional stakeholders;
Ability to work as an independent subject-matter expert while maintaining appropriate checks and balances with the global tax team;
Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken, due to close cooperation with international stakeholders;
Strong analytical skills and the ability to deal with complex, evolving tax regulations.

DSC yards have extensive experience – completing more than 1,300 projects every year, from normal drydockings for scheduled maintenance to damage repair, right up to extensive refit and conversion projects.

Services

Being active in the maritime industry demands continuous vessel reliability. For nearly all vessel types Damen offers a broad range of services, including maintenance, spare parts delivery, training and the transfer of shipbuilding know-how.

Components

Damen is also specialised in the design and production of various marine components including propeller nozzles, rudders, special towing winches, anchors, anchor chains and steel works.
