The role
As the Infrastructure Engineer, you are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s core IT infrastructure. Your domain includes managing server operating systems, virtualization platforms, storage, hardware components, and cloud services. You ensure the reliability, performance, and security of systems that support our business-critical naval operations. You play a key part in driving automation, enhancing observability, and ensuring compliance with strict industry standards.
Collaborating closely with other IT professionals, you integrate infrastructure solutions seamlessly into our business processes. Given the mission-critical nature of our work, commitment to our 24/7 standby rotation.
Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Server & Virtualization: Deploy and maintain Windows and Linux environments, including OS lifecycle, virtualization (Hyper-V/VMware), patching, and hardening.
Cloud & Directory Services: Manage Microsoft 365 services and Azure environments, with a strong focus on Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, and identity management.
Security & Compliance: Implement security measures to protect systems from cyber threats and ensure IT solutions comply with industry regulations and DN policies.
Business Support: Provide technical support for infrastructure-related issues and ensure continuity of operations by responding promptly to incidents.
Monitoring & Capacity: Analyze system performance, anticipate future capacity needs, and recommend strategic upgrades to support our evolving demands.
Disaster Recovery: Develop and implement robust backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure high availability of critical systems.
Automation & Documentation: Drive efficiency through scripting (PowerShell/Python) and maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations and procedures.
Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree (HBO) in IT or a related field. Candidates with an MBO-4 diploma and 3–5 years of relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
Proven experience in server OS management (Windows/Linux) and virtualization. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Azure, and Active Directory (DNS, DHCP, DFS) is a must.
Experience with Entra ID, MFA, certificate management, and endpoint protection.
Tooling: Hands-on experience with management tools such as SCCM and automation platforms like Ansible.
Microsoft MCSA (MCSE preferred) or certifications in VMware or Red Hat. ITIL Foundation is a plus.
Excellent command of the English language, with proficiency in Dutch being advantageous.
Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.

Shiprepair & conversion
Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) has a worldwide network of 18 repair and conversion yards with drydocks ranging up to 420 x 80 metres. DSC yards have extensive experience – completing more than 1,300 projects every year, from normal drydockings for scheduled maintenance to damage repair, right up to extensive refit and conversion projects.
Services
Being active in the maritime industry demands continuous vessel reliability. For nearly all vessel types Damen offers a broad range of services, including maintenance, spare parts delivery, training and the transfer of shipbuilding know-how.
Components
Damen is also specialised in the design and production of various marine components including propeller nozzles, rudders, special towing winches, anchors, anchor chains and steel works.
