The goal of Damen Song Cam is to develop, design and construct a portfolio of tugboats, and high-speed crafts in the most effective and efficient manner. Primarily based on standardized & smart-customized designs. Damen Song Cam is fulfilling current and developing market demands, with well-balanced levels of quality, service, price, and delivery time; thereby providing optimal solutions for our clients. Our vessels are produced at our yards in Hoang Dong commune, Thuy Nguyen, Vietnam as well as in other countries such as Singapore, China, Turkey and The Netherlands. 

The role 

Commissioning Navigation and Radio Communication equipment (NAVCOM) on board of the ships to secure that they meet the required specifications when supplied to the client.

Key accountabilities 

As a Nautical Commissioning Engineer your tasks are the following: 

  • Commissioning:

- Check the electrical connection works for proper fitting of connectors, and correct connections to specialized equipment;

- Perform specific measurements with specialized equipment to determine proper impedance of antenna systems;

- Verifies/simulates the correct functioning of the Radio Navigation systems, signalling and fixing issues;

- Programming equipment and updating software according latest manufacturers requirements, client specific information and regulations;

- Participate during sea trials for fine tuning and adjustments of navigation equipment, ensure proper operation and solve issues that may arise;

- Prepare and support the Radio Survey inspections for ships to be delivered

  • Commissioning reporting;

- Ensure correct completion of the NAVCOM commissioning report and handover to Class/Client where applicable;

- Liaise with main supplier for verifications and feedback on commissioning works performed;

  • Production support:

- Provides support to Electrical Workshop within the Production department, to ensure proper connection works for all equipment in cable pulling and connections phases;

- Checking electrical drawing packages and signalling issues. Providing improvement proposals to the Engineering department;

  • Safety rules:

- Follow the company working regulations (including quality, safety, and environment rules), with special attention when working at heights (e.g. antenna masts, top decks, etc.).

Skills & experience 

To be successful in this role you bring: 

  • Education

- Maritime University education preferred

- Completed specialty studies on electrical and automation, electronics & - telecommunication, etc.

- Proper education or training in IMO regulations for Radio Navigation equipment

  • Experience

- Experience in shipbuilding/maritime domain in a relevant position for commissioning Radio Navigation systems

Sailing experience or working on ships as electrical officer
