About us 

Damen Song Cam Shipyard is engineering, outfitting, commissioning and delivering various Damen standard ship types. Basic designs and most components are delivered to DSCS by Damen Shipyards Gorinchem. DSCS will complete the detailed design, and production information, which will be used during the assembly of the vessels.

The commissioning and seas trials department is a part of the Production department of Damen Song Cam Shipyard. This department is responsible for the verification and start-up of ship systems to secure good operation of all installations on board as well as the lay-up activities of delivered ships.

The role 

Coordinating the commissioning activities of all vessels in DSCS & service in the region.

Key accountabilities 

As a Commissioning Coordinator, your tasks are the following: 

  • Commissioning coordinating

- Being responsibility for commissioning coordination in the Commissioning & sea trial department;

- Coordinating the Commissioning meetings monthly & leading the brief meeting with subcontractors in some cases. Development of  the Commission’s agenda for discussion with the Commissioning & sea trial manager, Production director;

- Team circulating reports. Commissioning documents and working with involved persons to improve and increase quality of vessels;

- Working with the commissioning engineers to identify the content for future work schedule & planning and individual agenda’s for specific Commissioning meetings.

  •  Providing support to building activities

- Supporting the yard by providing within technical disciplines;

- Providing improvement proposals to the Engineering department;

- Advising the production lead and employees on building method, applying modern techniques and clever working methods.

  • Ensuring production progress

- Realizing an effective planning for commissioning activities;

- Tracking commissioning progress, signaling delays and determining consequences on the commissioning planning;

- Actively planning and managing output, workflow and deadlines, ensuring works in the Commissioning & sea trial dept. is managed efficiency;

- Intervening with planning in the case of deviations.

  • Commissioning communication

- Acting as a central point of contact for all requirement from Commissioning engineers, providing them the technical instruction;

- Responsible for the commissioning engineer schedule of building vessels & stock vessels;

- Arrange & support in advance of external visits and meetings, commissioning briefings and other material as required;

- Carrying out various control activities in regards to ships as installations, signaling and fixing obscurities and issues. Consulting with Engineering, subcontractors, and others;

- Solving issues and difficulties regarding installations and operations of systems on board;

- Arrange the sailing crews for demonstration to the Clients, solving issues and technicalities that may arise;

- Building and maintaining effective working relationships with all commissioning engineers, subcontractors & Clients.

  •  Commissioning report ​

- Assist the Commissioning & sea trial manager to update the commissioning book, specially develop E&A protocol during HAT & SAT;

- Developing the protocol of Hydraulic & HVAC system.

  • Technical guiding of colleagues /or Subcontractors

- Providing technical instructions to commissioning engineers /or subcontractors and the training of a client. Explaining the work activities, answering questions and solving obscurities are the most important tasks.

  • Observing rules

- Observing the company- and work regulations (including quality, safety, and environment)

Skills & experience 

To be successful in this role you bring: 

  • Education

- VIMARU education

- Completed engine operation course, or electrical engineering

  • Experience

- Shipbuilding experience. Able to communicate in the English language verbally as well as in writing.
