Damen Shipyards Group has been in operation for over ninety years and offers maritime solutions worldwide, through design, construction, conversion and repair of ships and ship components. Since joining the Damen Shipyards Group in 1999, Damen Shipyards Galaţi, currently the group’s top exporter of high-end complex vessels, has developed into a highly efficient production yard with significant output. Its expertise and closely managed supply chain have been behind some of Damen’s most important deliveries to date, fully illustrating the group’s diverse product portfolio.

The role

The Maintenance Workshop Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall effectiveness and reliability of the company’s maintenance operations. The role drives operational excellence, aligns maintenance activities with production goals, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and leads the workshop team while fostering collaboration across production, technical, and logistics functions.

Key accountabilities

Budget & Performance Management

Manage the allocated budget and provide periodic consumption reporting
Ensure achievement of assigned KPIs in line with production and management objectives

Planning & Resource Coordination

Plan and monitor activities to ensure deadlines are met
Ensure availability of necessary resources (materials, equipment, machinery, personnel)

Compliance & Operational Standards

Implement and ensure compliance with internal procedures, health and safety regulations, and quality standards
Collaborate with Production, Technical, and Logistics departments to maintain efficient operational flow

People Management

Manage workshop personnel, including performance evaluation and identification of training needs

Skills & experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or related technical field)
Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar position
English – intermediate level

Personal qualities (psychological mentality, social skills)

Strong organizational and planning skills
Results-oriented mindset with focus on KPI achievement
Leadership and team coordination abilities
Problem-solving and analytical thinking
Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration

Newbuild

Damen has delivered more than 6,500 vessels in 100 countries and delivers some 175 vessels annually to customers worldwide. Damen’s focus on standardisation, modular construction and keeping vessels on stock leads to short delivery times, low total cost of ownership and reliable performance. We offer a wide range of products including tugs, naval and patrol vessels, high speed craft, ferries, dredging, offshore vessels and superyachts.

Shiprepair & conversion

Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) has a worldwide network of 18 repair and conversion yards with drydocks ranging up to 420 x 80 metres. DSC yards have extensive experience – completing more than 1,300 projects every year, from normal drydockings for scheduled maintenance to damage repair, right up to extensive refit and conversion projects.

Services

Being active in the maritime industry demands continuous vessel reliability. For nearly all vessel types Damen offers a broad range of services, including maintenance, spare parts delivery, training and the transfer of shipbuilding know-how.

Components

Damen is also specialised in the design and production of various marine components including propeller nozzles, rudders, special towing winches, anchors, anchor chains and steel works.
