Since joining the Damen Shipyards Group in 1999, Damen Shipyards Galaţi, currently the group’s top exporter of high-end complex vessels, has developed into a highly efficient production yard with significant output. Its expertise and closely managed supply chain have been behind some of Damen’s most important deliveries to date, fully illustrating the group’s diverse product portfolio.

The role

The Production Support Workshop Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective and uninterrupted operation of all auxiliary services supporting shipbuilding activities at Galati Shipyard. The role provides overall oversight of the workshop’s teams and resources, fosters operational excellence, and ensures full alignment with production objectives, safety standards, and quality requirements.

Key accountabilities

Workshop Operations & Team Management

  • Oversee all production support services, including temporary shipboard installations, internal vessel maneuvers and towing, internal material and equipment transport, crane operations, and ship preparation and launching activities
  • Lead and manage workshop teams, ensuring efficient task execution, performance evaluation, and identification of training needs

Budget & Performance Management

  • Manage the allocated budget and provide regular consumption reporting
  • Ensure achievement of assigned KPIs in line with production and management objectives
     

Planning & Resource Coordination

  • Plan and monitor workshop activities to ensure deadlines are met
  • Ensure availability of all necessary resources, including materials, equipment, machinery, and personnel

Compliance & Operational Standards

  • Implement and enforce internal procedures, health and safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Technical, and Logistics departments to ensure smooth operational workflow

Skills & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or related technical field)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar position
  • English – intermediate level

DSC yards have extensive experience – completing more than 1,300 projects every year, from normal drydockings for scheduled maintenance to damage repair, right up to extensive refit and conversion projects.

Services

Being active in the maritime industry demands continuous vessel reliability. For nearly all vessel types Damen offers a broad range of services, including maintenance, spare parts delivery, training and the transfer of shipbuilding know-how.

Components

Damen is also specialised in the design and production of various marine components including propeller nozzles, rudders, special towing winches, anchors, anchor chains and steel works.
