Your role
You will join a dynamic team of over 250 naval, mechanical and electrical engineers in IHC's Shipbuilding cluster. The dredging and offshore industries are continually changing and, as such, so will your role. This will present you with the exciting challenge of defining your own career path.

Initially, this will be in basic or detailed engineering in one of the following areas: structure; machinery and piping; equipment; or life-support. Depending on your expertise, preference and current projects, we will cooperate closely with you to determine a preferred discipline in which you can develop your skills and knowledge even further.

This is only the start though, as the Shipbuilding cluster offers a sea of opportunities. You will be primarily based in Kinderdijk and Krimpen aan den Ijssel where our engineering and building sites are located. However, with engineering offices in Croatia, Slovakia and Malaysia, you will have the chance to explore the international stage.

Your principal purpose will be to deliver top-level engineering drawings and calculations, in addition to the following challenges:

  • setting up and completing 2D drawings and/or 3D models of the construction, systems, equipment, outfitting and procedures based on relevant information, specifications, rules and regulations, and yard standards
  • examining drawings for consistency with the specification, readability and user-friendliness, as well as identifying any missing information
  • supporting internal and external stakeholders on any technical aspects and questions during implementation, production and aftersales.

To be eligible for the role of Shipbuilding Engineer, you must have:

  • a bachelor's degree (HBO) with two years of relevant experience or a secondary level of education (MBO) in a technical field such as naval architecture or mechanical engineering plus at least five years of experience
  • experience in basic or detail engineering in a relevant environment (experience in the shipbuilding sector is desirable)
  • strong communication skills in English and preferably in Dutch (or a willingness to learn Dutch)
  • excellent problem-solving skills
  • a hands-on, practical and team-oriented approach
  • the flexibility for occasional travel to our engineering teams abroad.

Terms of employment
Royal IHC offers you a challenging job within a successful and dynamic company with a reputation for being a worldwide leader in technological innovation. In addition, we offer you a competitive salary, professional development opportunities, travel allowance, profit share, pension allowance, training courses and at least 40 days of leave per year.

''There are plenty of opportunities within the IHC organisation." - Bastian Bijl, Lead Engineer Mission Equipment.
